How Do Cats See During Night?

The cat is a common pet animal that is widely grown in many places. These cats have the ability to see the surrounding at dark. This is mainly due to the various inbuilt features within the cat’s eye. With these features, they can easily see the surrounding area in dark and dim light. The modifications of the cat’s eye are the pupil, the tapetum lucidum, and the retina.

The pupil of the cats is elliptical in shape with vertical elongation. This vertical elongation keeps the eyes of the cat wide open, unlike the human eyes. Added to that, it has an eye membrane named tapetum lucidum, which allows reflecting the light hence, more light reaches the retina and this helps in clear view. In the retina, the rods are more effective than the cones, and it ensures high-quality vision in low light condition.
